“Stand And Live” Vocal/Piano Sheet Music

“Stand and Live” sheet music download

Composed: December 2018

The story:

I was practicing alone in the chapel at my church building on a Wednesday night, while my son Ethan was at scouts in the other room. I practiced for a good half hour the Piano Guys arrangement of “Oh, Come, Oh Come Emanuel”, a challenging and beautiful piece. After that, I began to start playing some chords softly. I can’t remember how it began. I just know that a chorus melody came out of me. I was excited and hopeful, as it has been years since I have written a song.  I stopped and thought for a moment. I distinctly remember hearing the word ‘suicide’ in my head, and I thought about a recent tragic event at BYU. A 19 year old girl jumped in a suicide attempt from the 4th floor of the Tanner building. She died the next day. I thought about the crisis we are having today, especially in our church, of young people taking their lives. Maybe this song could be a help to someone who is struggling and weak. I don’t know a lot about suicide or mental illness, and so sometimes I think ‘How on earth can I write about this? I can’t relate.’ Yet, the spirit can, and I prayed to know what lyrics to compose. It was a humbling process.

The message:

I know that life is beautiful and hard, but it is a gift to us. We get one earthly life, one chance to experience it all. It is a time of trials, testing, and joy. It is a humbling refinement of our souls, preparing us for greater things. Yet, among the joyful moments are very hard, dark days. We must try to have the courage to reach out for help, to allow the Savior to heal us when we are weak and weary, and to stand and live each day to it’s fullness.

Beautiful quotes:

‘Never give up--however deep the wounds of your soul, whatever their source, wherever or whenever they happen, and however short or long they persist, you are not meant to perish spiritually. You are meant to survive spiritually and blossom in your faith and trust in God.

God did not create our spirits to be independent of Him. Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, through the incalculable gift of His Atonement, not only saves us from death and offers us, through repentance, forgiveness for our sins, but He also stands ready to save us from the sorrows and pains of our wounded souls.

The Savior is our Good Samaritan, sent “to heal the brokenhearted.” He comes to us when others pass us by. With compassion, He places His healing balm on our wounds and binds them up. He carries us. He cares for us. He bids us, “Come unto me … and I shall heal [you].”

“Do you think for a moment that Heavenly Father would have sent one of His children to this earth by accident, without the possibility of a significant work to perform? … Neil L. Andersen

“You were preserved to come to the earth in this time for a special purpose. Not just a few of you, but all of you. There are things for each of you to do that no one else can do as well as you. … If you will let Him, I testify that our Father in Heaven will walk with you through the journey of life and inspire you to know your special purpose here.” Elder H. Burke Peterson

“He’ll Be There With You” Vocal/Piano Sheet Music

“He’ll Be There With You” sheet music download

Composed: 2002, Provo, Utah

Vocals: Kim Dyreng, Kerri Dahl, Janisa Tharp, and  Erin Hatch

Piano: Erin Hatch

The Story:

I remember living in Provo, Utah with a bunch of wildly fun roommates. We were blessed to have an old upright piano in our home.

One day, I began playing this pretty intro. I found the chords to the verses that sounded so strong and reassuring to me. As I began to put the song together, the main theme in my mind was about Jesus Christ, and his atoning love and sacrifice for us. I wanted to write a song about how we go through hard trials, or just times of sadness, and how forgiveness  and peace are always available to us. If we just hold on, the Savior will be right there with us, to comfort us always.

The Message:

The scriptures speak of His arms being open,  extended, stretched out, and encircling. They are described as mighty and holy,  arms of mercy, arms of safety,  arms of love,  “lengthened out all the day long… The Lord’s desire that we come unto Him and be wrapped in His arms is often an invitation to repent. “Behold, he sendeth an invitation unto all men, for the arms of mercy are extended towards them, and he saith: Repent, and I will receive you.” 1

I love the picture on this page. It is the perfect visual reminder to me of how much the Savior loves us and wants to comfort us. It's such a tender image.

I know that Jesus Christ has perfect love for us. He felt every pain for us, so that He could know how to comfort us personally. He knows exactly what sadness, anguish, and pain we are feeling, and wants to lift and comfort us. It is His gift that is free to all, if we will just make Him apart of our lives, and allow Him into our thoughts and hearts.

“Only You” Vocal/Piano Sheet Music

“Only You” sheet music download

Vocals: Kerri Dahl and Robinick Fernandez

Piano: Erin Hatch

Composed: Las Vegas, NV 1995

The Story: This song has magical powers. It makes you want to get married in the temple. It inspires you to reach high and become that person that you want to be married to for eternity.

One afternoon, I was waiting for my friend Andy to pick me up and go do something fun. I was at at the piano just messing around, when the chorus just came right out of my fingers and I began to play "Only him, meeting him, I will adore him and no other. Pure love dressed in white, I will labor to be all I can become." The doorbell rang, and I thought 'Well, that was neat. I'll work on this later."

I began to write some verses, and thought it would be neat to make it a duet. The words completely spoke of my young teenage girl dream to find an eternal companion and get married in an LDS temple. The boy verse shows how much of a romantic I am.

This song was a huge hit with the choir. One time we rehearsed it, something really darling happened. The part when the boy and girl sing their separate parts together, the boy starts off singing 'When will I go on bended knee to prove myself to her?' Well, all the guys got down on one knee singing that part to the girls. Yes, we girls nearly died in bashfulness and adoration of our awesome guy friends. Best memory ever.

The Message:

"I know the exquisite joy that comes from an eternal marriage sealed at a temple altar through the holy sealing power. When there is righteousness, a commitment to give of self, obedience to the commandments of God, and the resolve to seek His will in all things together, that joy is unspeakable. I do not have words to express the fulfillment and peace that flow from such a supernal experience, even when there is a temporary interruption of the glory of life together on earth. It is that joy and happiness I want so much for each of you. More importantly, that is what your Father in Heaven wants for you." Richard G. Scott -1

I believe that there is life after death, and families are not separated when they leave this life on earth. Our loving Heavenly Father has provided a way for families to be sealed, linked together, for eternity, and it is through his holy temple.

“Warriors of Light” Vocal/Piano Sheet Music

Composed: 1995, Las Vegas, NV

The Story: In the summer of 1995, I received a letter from a friend in Idaho. She told me about the theme to her Girls Camp, which was called 'Warriors of Light'. I remember thinking, 'That sounds like a great title to a church song' .

I sat at the piano, trying to come up with something. My mom came into the room, wanting to vacuum. I went in another room, laid on the floor, and began to write some verses that rhymed. This was the first and only time I had ever written the words first before the melody for a song.

I went back to the piano, looked at my paper, and made up a melody for the verses. I then began to play a chorus melody, quickly finding a soprano and alto part. It just flowed out so fast.

This was the first song I wrote that was of a spiritual nature. It opened the floodgates for more church songs to come.

The Message:

"The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light."

Romans 13:12

This is an anthem for the youth of today. Living in the world is rough. There is temptation all around, and we must put on our amour and protect ourselves from the adversary. Light is brighter than darkness, and will conquer over evil. There is no need to fear when you remember to live strong and stand bright, for you are a warrior of light.

“Holy Temple” Vocal/Piano Sheet Music

“Holy Temple” sheet music download

Composed: Las Vegas, NV 2008

Vocals: Lisa Ferrin and Stephanie Bond
Piano: Erin Hatch

The Story: I was in the San Destin ward, attending the women's study class in the third hour of church. The lesson was about the temple. I remember clearly hearing a voice in my head, actually the pristine, beautiful voice of Charlotte Church, singing 'Holy temple, holy temple, sacred, reverent holy temple..' It was just so quietly piercing and beautiful. I grabbed a pen, and scribbled down the words I just heard. I've never had a song come to me like that before.

I then spent the next few weeks working on it, balancing taking care of my toddler son, and coming back to the piano when I could.

The second verse mentions 'Father, mother, children tender, this is what matters most.' At the time, I was watching the show 'Jon and Kate plus 8'. They were going through the whole family falling apart issue. This line was completely inspired from that. Silly, I know, but so true about the family being important.

The Message:

"Say the word temple. Say it quietly and reverently. Say it over and over again. Temple. Temple. Temple. Add the word holy. Holy Temple. Say it as though it were capitalized, no matter where it appears in the sentence.

Temple. One other word is equal in importance to a Latter-day Saint.Home. Put the words holy temple and home together, and you have described the house of the Lord!" Boyd K. Packer -1

The temple is a beautiful place of worship. It is the closest resemblance to heaven on earth. Families are joined together for eternity. The work of salvation for mankind is done there. The temple is a place of learning, and a place of peace. One boy nailed it perfectly,

"Grandpa, you are never lost when you can see the temple." -2

May we always keep the temple in our eternal sights.

“Be Still My Soul” Piano Solo/Vocal Sheet Music

My dear friends and I rehearsed this song and recorded it for sharing, hoping it may uplift a soul and bring peace through music. Last month, I was at the piano and this arrangement flowed out of my fingers so fast. I knew it needed to be shared.

I know that we are never left alone in our trials. We have a Savior who has felt all our pains in order to comfort us perfectly and personally. I know when we open the door to Jesus Christ and allow Him into our hearts, all will be well and we will have lasting peace. 💕

"A Poor Wayfaring Man Of Grief" Piano Solo Arrangement

I arranged this piano solo on a beloved hymn, “A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief” a few years ago. I recently got it down on video to share, and I’m so glad I did. This year, The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints scripture study is on the Doctrine and Covenants, about the restoration of the church , and Joseph Smith’s role in that. What better timing to share this song during this year.

Gifts

LDS music, Christian music,

When you have gifts to share, don’t hold back. Don’t let Satan stop you for another moment. Take the walls down. Pray for strength to remove the fear. Build bricks of faith, of hope, of ambitious dreams.

Every good gift comes from God, no matter how big or small it is. If it inspires beauty and hope within ourselves and others, it is a gift. God gives gifts to all His children, a variety of topics. All of our gifts combined create a beautiful palette of paint colors to illuminate the world with sounds, sights, and words.

Gifts can be as grand as an architecture of wonder, to a small strand of emotive words, to a simple vase of lovingly arranged flowers. All gifts are needed. All gifts can point us to Christ. Don’t waste a moment comparing yourself to others.

All of us have something to share and are greatly needed. Be kind to yourself. Have gentle thoughts circulating in your mind. Drop the fear, push aside the barriers, and behold wonders.

Back again

A new year is upon me, and I feel prompted to work on sharing my music more. This feeling began to stir within me recently, when I created a piano solo arrangement to “What Child Is This” to perform in my church. I shared a video of my my practice on the piano of the song. I received an abundance of kind comments, and realized that I need to not let my music go stagnant.

I renewed this site, and will continue to work on it throughout this new year approaching quite fast. I have a youtube channel that can be found HERE, and I hope to add more videos, as Youtube is a huge outlet to the world. Sometimes, it might just be a video from my phone of music. I get overwhelmed thinking I need to create a well polished video, but then, its better to have something than nothing, right?

Our time on earth

My heart is full this morning as I think about life and death. A tender and loving father that I have been blessed to know went home to heaven. All of sudden, nothing else matters but the people in our lives, and what we do with the time given to us.

We come to earth for a short fleeting time, to learn and to grow, and to create treasured relationships and memories. It is humbling to hear of a loved one leaving this earth and coming back home. It makes me weep and miss them terribly, but hold on to hope and the happy thought of a reunion.

I want to share some thoughts below, starting with one from Russell M. Nelson:

"Life does not begin with birth, nor does it end with death. Prior to our birth, we dwelled as spirit children with our Father in Heaven. There we eagerly anticipated the possibility of coming to earth and obtaining a physical body. Knowingly we wanted the risks of mortality, which would allow the exercise of agency and accountability. “This life [was to become] a probationary state; a time to prepare to meet God.” (Alma 12:24.) But we regarded the returning home as the best part of that long-awaited trip, just as we do now. Before embarking on any journey, we like to have some assurance of a round-trip ticket. Returning from earth to life in our heavenly home requires passage through—and not around—the doors of death. We were born to die, and we die to live.  (See 2 Cor.6:9.)
As seedlings of God, we barely blossom on earth; we fully flower in heaven."

One of the most comforting scriptures found in the Book of Mormon concerning death:

Now, concerning the state of the soul between death and the resurrection—Behold, it has been made known unto me by an angel, that the spirits of all men, as soon as they are departed from this mortal body, yea, the spirits of all men, whether they be good or evil, are taken home to that God who gave them life.

And then shall it come to pass, that the spirits of those who are righteous are received into a state of happiness, which is called paradise, a state of rest, a state of peace, where they shall rest from all their troubles and from all care, and sorrow.

Alma 40:11-12

This quote is from Joseph Fielding Smith. It has given me so much peace and perspective:

“And may I say for the consolation of those who mourn, and for the comfort and guidance of all of us, that no righteous man is ever taken before his time. In the case of the faithful Saints, they are simply transferred to other fields of labor. The Lord’s work goes on in this life, in the world of spirits, and in the kingdoms of glory where men go after their resurrection."

These thoughts reflect my testimony of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and it's teachings. I know that we live after we die here on earth, and that our lives our eternal. I know that we will be reunited with our loved ones, because our loving Heavenly Father has made it possible. Death is not the end. It is a time to mourn and to reflect on the legacy that someone has left for us. The memories, lessons, and kindness that someone gave us while they were here. I know this is true. What joy and comfort these truths have brought me.

That website is a valid source of truth. Ponder on what you read. Pray to know if it's true. It's as simple as that. Your Father in Heaven is aware of you and loves you dearly. I have witnessed this. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my thoughts:)

Neglect not the gift

"Neglect not the gift that is in thee...

Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them"

1 Timothy 4:14-15

I first saw this scripture when I attended a Time Out for Women event a few years back. I love the message of this scripture. I believe we are all given gifts from our Heavenly Father. We all have missions in this life to accomplish. Each of us are given unique talents and abilities that can be used to help others. The problem with me is that sometimes life gets too crazy, too piled up, or I get stuck in a routine and don't lift my head high enough to remember what I was put on earth to do.

I'm challenging myself to get out of ruts, to have more moments of remembering who I am, and to somehow balance it all so that I won't neglect the gift anymore.

Take a moment to ponder today. Stop and remember what gifts you have been given, no matter if they're grand or small, and realign your course. Each day is precious, time is fleeting, and our time on earth right now is a gift. May you have a beautiful day!
